Hrm, been awhile since my last post...
So college eh? Lots of emotions and thoughts swirling around these days. Most of which I am not comfortable enough to share on this blog. I sometimes wish it was more confidential, despite what I posted prior about wanting my blog to be all free and what not. So what can I talk about here? Hrm, I guess I can touch on ... roomate? (for you grace)!
So like all freshman, you're kinda scared of your roomate. Some questions that ran through my mind during summer were: will he sleep at 10? is he okay with me shouting shit at the dead of night for CS:S? Looking back, I actually didn't feel very concerned about my roomate, unlike Azinda who was freaking out. I guess it's a girl vs. guy thing. To first solve those above questions, no, he doesn't sleep at 10, but he does sleep at 1-2 am, which I guess is good compared to other ppl, but I seem to always seem to be sleeping later. I guess in some cases, it's good to have him sleeping at 2am or so (like he is right now). It puts a check on myself and makes me end up sleeping around 2-3.
Secondly, CS:S. I was really concerned about being able to play CS:S in davis. Worrying about connection speed and whether my roomate is okay with my playing CS:S at night? It turns out that none of it really matters as I really don't play CS anymore. I logged onto Steam today and played for about 40 mins. Looking at my logs, I only played 1.1 hrs in 2 weeks! This is definitely not summer. I am somewhat sad that I don't play CS anymore. It was a very integral part of my life and I definitely feel "out of the loop" whenever i jump onto CS briefly. Both skillwise and community-wise. It's sad, but I'm glad that I'm having fun studying/socializing rather than playing CS all day. One thing that I definitely wanted to do during college.
While I was not too concerned about things prior to moving in, I'm actually very glad I ended up with Khanh as a roomate. Just looking around my G2 hall, there are maybe a handful of people that I could see myself rooming with. There are definitely many more UN-compatible people on this hallway. ie. the macho sports players on the floor. I'll stay away from the negatives and talk about positives incase he ends up reading this.
Things I like about my roomate:
1. Music taste. Surprisingly, we listen to very similar music. Of course I like my playlist, but I'm fine with his too (for the most part). There is a nice mix of hip-hop/rap and then I sporadically hear the nice Jack Johnson or John Mayer song. The mix and match is strikingly similar to my own taste, and it's very relieving. No offense, but I don't think i can handle my roommate blasting techno or some crazy rock band.
2 .. I was gonna make a nice list, but I really didn't have anything to say past music. O wells. Good roomate traits indeed :P
Roommates aside, "studying" and education is very different here in college. College is so different than high school in that your schedule is never concrete. In HS, it was a basic 6am - 4pm school time. You come home and do HW then sleep. In college however, you only have ~ 3 hrs of class per day and all at different hours. Especially for me, I wake up at 10-11 each day and get 8 hrs of sleep. I study in the MORNING, which I really don't like, and inbetween classes here and there. College has no consisten schedule like HS does, and it's been hard to adjust. It's especially hard to gauge how much you study. It's easy in HS because you have that set amount of time after school to do HW. But in college, nothing is set in stone and it's hard to say "I've studied for 5 hrs" because it's all broken up into tiny spaces.
I just thought about this in the past few seconds, but perhaps the dislike of my schedule may simply be not enough credits. I currently take 16 units, and feel like I'm not doing much work at all. Yes, I slack of in ASA and don't read much, and CS/Math are both super easy and take up no time, but I think I could definitely fit 17-19 units easily. Shed off 2 hrs of sleep everyday for an extra 10 hrs a week will be golden. (which I am perfectly capable of doing. I mean at HS, sleeping at 12am and waking at 6am was perfectly fine). I guess I'll consider it next quarter.. Probably double up on ECS courses..
anyway, this is totally deviating, and I don't really know what I want to write about, so I'm just gonna go brush my teeth and get ready to go to bed by watching sunday's family guy episode. NIGHT
